Abstract

Abstract

A hybrid system composed of a photovoltaic (PV) module integrated with a thermal unit is fabricated and tested in outdoor conditions. The system has been installed at MITS, Gwalior and its thermal analysis has been done experimentally. In our experimental work, water is used as a working fluid and pit coarse sand is used as an insulator. Experimentally it is observed that the thermal efficiency of the system is also influenced by the rate at which water flows through the system. System thermal efficiency lies between 42.8-57.3% for a flow rate of 0.042 Kg/s and 0.048 Kg/s, respectively. Generally, at a comparatively lower mass flow rate of water higher thermal efficiency is obtained. This proposed system fulfills the hot water requirement; therefore, it is suitable for domestic as well as industrial applications.
