A Comprehensive Energy Audit for Energy Efficiency Improvement in Commercial Building in Bangladesh

Abstract

As a developing country, Bangladesh is developing rapidly due to the increase in industry and technology. However, the country has been facing an energy crisis for many years to meet growing demand. Gradually, the gap between energy supply and demand is getting bigger and bigger. An effective way to close the gap is to conduct regular energy audits of all departments to help identify losses and wastes and provide room for improving utilization. The purpose of this work is to conduct energy audits in commercial buildings, understand energy losses, and provide methods and techniques to compensate for losses. Commercial buildings are heavy consumers of energy and use it in many ways. In this article, we have successfully demonstrated the enormous energy saving potential of utilities by implementing some energy saving measures for the most energy consuming equipment such as lighting and air conditioning. Here MS Excel tool is used for categorization process which helps to calculate total energy consumption, energy loss and energy savings. It also generates graphs and pie charts to indicate the sectors with the highest energy consumption. The audit process is carried out in three stages, namely: programming, instrumentation and measurement. This article also highlights energy saving opportunities and the potential to reduce initial operating costs. This is achieved by replacing traditional lighting and other important equipment with more energy efficient appliances to increase efficiency. The results of this study show that if we implement and run a thorough energy audit, you can save a lot of energy and money.
