Abstract

The major objective of this review paper was construction of particleboard using sugarcane bagasse. Particleboard is a wood-based panel product manufactured under pressure and temperature from the particles of wood or other any lignocellulose fibrous materials and a binder. It is used widely in the manufacture of furniture, floor underlayment and interior decoration. A primary lignocellulose material used in the particleboard industry is woods, but non-woods plant fibers and agro-based residues have also been investigated for producing particleboard. In developed countries like Ethiopia, sugar factories are producing large amount sugarcane by-product a so called bagasse. Besides of this factories, are processing of this waste into valuable products such as ethanol, biogas, insulating board, manufacturing of biodegradable plastic, furfural, bagasse board, animal feeds and so on. In Ethiopia, the sugar factories are generating a sufficient amount of bagasse at present time. But, the primary purposes of bagasse are used for generating electricity, steam for boiler and the remaining is simply discarding. However, this material is very important for the production of different products as have said earlier. In addition to that, no one can try to transform bagasse into a valuable product in our countries, but a lot research has been conducted relate with sugarcane by-product. Due to this, the factories are not getting extra income from this useful raw material rather than spending additional money for disposal purpose. Therefore, by using this locally available raw material, cheaper, sustainable and environmental friendly is for manufactured of particleboards.
