Risk Analysis of Infrastructure Projects - Case of Mumbai Metroline 1

MEDHA JOSHI

Abstract

The study attempts to identify key risk factors during the execution phase of the Elevated Mumbai Metro Project by administering a structured questionnaire to professionals with substantially long work experience on different projects and extensive review of academic and industry literature. The various risks identified are categorized as related to client, contractor, consultant, material, labour, equipment and external risks. They are further evaluated by applying Failure Mode and Effect Analysis along with Fuzzy Logic for computation of Risk Priority Number (RPN) to understand which risks are to be addressed on a high priority basis. Category-wise ranking is completed. It is observed that various contractor related issues need urgent attention, as RPN of contractor’s risk is observed to be relatively higher than that of the client related and consultants related risks. Similarly, the risks related to material, labour, equipment and external factors also require immediate attention to ensure a smooth execution of the project.
