Similarity Solution of Two-dimensional Fluid Flow over a Flat Plate Using Shooting Technique

Banamali Dalai

Abstract

The steady incompressible laminar viscous flow over a flat plate is solved using similarity variable transformed equation. The two-dimensional momentum and forced convection energy equations are reduced to boundary layer equation. These equations are transformed into similarity variable form. The surface of the wall is maintained at constant temperature. Shooting technique is used to solve these equations using Runge-Kutta method, Predictor-Corrector method, Modified Euler method, Adam-Bashforth method and Milne’s method. The hydraulic boundary layer and the thermal boundary layers at various Prandtl’s numbers are observed using all these method. The velocity of fluid flow over the flat plate is assumed to be constant.
