Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study multi-response optimization of injection moulding parameters and to verify the optimum parameters of polypropylene for achieving the best result. The four parameters taken for injection moulding are injection pressure, melt temperature, packing pressure and packing time. The experiments are plotted by using L27orthogonal array. Orthogonal array is generated with the help MINITAB-17. The effect of process parameters such as melt temperature, packing pressure, packing time, injection pressure on material hardness, density, and compressive strength has been studied. Optimum combination of process parameters is obtained by Grey relation analysis and the result is examined by ANOVA. The outcome shows that melt temperature and packing time are the most dominant parameters. The effects of packing pressure and injection pressure are less effective in compared to other parameters. Injection pressure and melt temperature are kept at low level and the packing pressure and packing time are kept at high level. The optimum parameters are: IP=200 MPa, IP=70, PP=35 MPa, PT=5 sec.
