Abstract

Abstract

Day by day increasing of vehicles has greater impact on the environment. Due to large population, automobiles and machines there is increase in air pollution. Large number of pollutants is released in ambient environment, damaging the quality of medicinal and non-medicinal plants. To study the effect of pollution on the carotenoid and ascorbic acid content in medicinal and non-medicinal plants we took six sampling sites: medical college, Tejgarhi, Hapur stand, Baccha park, Begum Bridge and control site (MIET campus), and five different plant samples: Alstonia scholaris, Dalbergia sissoo, Eucalyptus globules, Saraca asoca, and Azadirachta indica. The maximum content of ascorbic acid and carotenoid was found in Azadirachta indica at control site and lowest was recorded at site-5 (Begum bridge).
