Simulation of Hybrid Energy Storage System for Electric Vehicles

Abstract


As the demand for electric vehicle is growing now a days, its efficiency as well as performance is important from prospect point of view. Energy storage system plays an important role in electric vehicle. This paper proposes a new storage system for hybrid electric vehicle having super capacitors to meet the requirement of automotive applications. Braking, energy recovery, start up and acceleration are some of the important key points. Reduction in weight of the storage system, can be achieved by connecting it with high power component like supercapacitor. Main challenge is the increment in both efficiency as well as performance of the electric vehicle. Simulation in MATLAB is carried out to access its performance and mitigation of stresses in the battery. Simulation model for hybrid energy source is presented. As well as used to study the design optimization of electric vehicle. It is observed that implementation of super capacitor increases efficiency and overall performance again reduces electric stresses.
