EFFECT OF Scandium and Zirconium ADDITIONS ON HARDNESS AND CORROSION RESISTANCE OF AA5083 Alloy

Srinivasa Rao M, Ramanaiah Nallu

Abstract

This study investigates the hardness and corrosion resistance of modified AA5083. Stir casting with cold rolled condition was applied to prepare the four compositions, namely AA5083 alloy, modified AA5083 alloy with 0.2wt.%Sc-0.1wt.%Zr, modified AA5083 alloy with 0.4wt.%Sc-0.1wt.%Zr alloy, and modified AA5083 alloy with 0.6wt.%Sc-0.1wt.%Zr alloy. Alloying with Sc-Zr has a strong influence on the hardness of AA5083 alloy and corrosion resistance.

Keywords
