Optimization of Wear and Friction Parameters of Al-WC Composite Using Response Surface Methodology

Abstract


This paper aims to optimize the wear and friction parameters of Al-WC composite using response surface methodology. Initially dry sliding wear test on specimen of Al-0WC, Al-5WC, Al-8WC and Al-11WC composites were performed using pin-on-disc equipment under atmospheric conditions, with the varying parameters of the applied load 80KN and Sliding distance  6700m and the sliding velocity is kept constant of  3.34  m/s. The optimum parameters of wear mass loss and friction were identified using Response Surface Methodology and some useful conclusions were made.
