Distribution Power Loss Minimization by Network Reconfiguration and DG Placement

SARFARAZ NAWAZ, Manish Sahrma, Ankush Tandon

Abstract

Abstract

The paper presents an efficient algorithm for network reconfiguration associated with DG allocation to minimize real power losses in radial distribution networks. Selective Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (SPSO) is used to find new tie switches. Allocation of DG units has been done by new analytical approach. The proposed analytical method for optimal DG placement is developed based on a new mathematical formulation. DG type-I is used to solve the problem. The effectiveness of proposed algorithm is demonstrated on IEEE 33 and IEEE 69 bus radial distribution systems at three different load levels namely light, nominal and heavy loads. Upto 50% DG penetration level is also considered in this paper. The obtained results are promising when compared with recently proposed algorithms.
