Direct Power Control of Induction Motor Drive

AH. Niasar, Hossein Rahimi Khoei

Abstract

Different variable frequency strategies have been developed for control of induction motors including V/f scalar control; field oriented control (FOC), and direct torque control (DTC). Recently, direct power control (DPC) has been developed to control dual-fed induction generators (DFIGs) and permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs). In this paper, DPC is employed for speed control of induction motors fed by a voltage source inverter. DPC is basically similar to DTC method in structure and response. Moreover, the measuring of feedback power is easier than prediction of feedback torque in DTC and there is no need to model parameters of the motor. Simulation results are presented in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed DPC technique.
