Condition Monitoring of Drilling Rigs

D. Srikant

Abstract

This paper is interned to give improved maintenance of various equipment’s in a deep drilling rig used for drilling exploratory oil and gas wells. Since drilling rigs are capital intensive a need was felt to reduce their maintenance cost and increase their life expectancy. Thus the diagnostic technique like condition monitoring was implemented to diagnose the various problems in the machinery which are caused due to continuous usage. Condition monitoring involves various aspects such as vibration analysis, sound analysis and oil analysis. This work is mainly based with vibration analysis by means of vibration of different machinery one can judge the problem and the cause of the problem. By the implementation of condition monitoring the time overhauls can be extended and unforeseen breakdowns can be avoided.
