Safety climate status in oil and gas industries: A review of the literature

Swamy Devappa Renuka

Abstract

Safety is a very critical concept which needs to be followed in all the industries. In order to remove the confusions related to safety climate in the oil and gas industries, a total of 14 papers are reviewed to disambiguate the concept of safety climate and remove the confusions regarding safety climate in the oil and gas industry. The papers considered here cover twenty-three years of safety climate research and range from 1995 to 2018. Such an extensive review of the research on safety climate in the oil and gas sector provided ample information on how safety climate research has evolved over the years. Researchers mainly used questionnaires to gather perceptional data in an attempt to develop better methods of measuring safety climate, and in the process of doing so, developed better methods of quantifying safety in an organization itself.
