Development and Optimization of Cold Rolled Slitting Machine Process

Supriya Ashok Shilwant

Abstract

Slitting machine is now widely used for dividing a wide strip into a plurality of narrow strips or for trimming the unnecessary or unacceptable edge portion of relatively wide sheet metal stock. In some cold rolling slitting machine a problem has been found that the camber is formed at the time of cutting. When the strip passes through skin pass operation, burr is formed due to friction which will result in bad surface finish and also when pushing force do not match with the pulling force results into camber on edges of strips. This project focus on the effects of cutting parameters on specific forces such as shearing force and the profile of thin strip. New advancement in the cutting parameter is to be incorporated to eliminate the camber formation during the slitting operation. The scarp winding mechanism is developed considering the ergonomics of the workplace. The wearing of cutter discs accordingly is found to be very small when compared with that existing slitting method. Optimization of slitting process line is done by using Taguchi Method. Moreover, the paper shall provide a detailed CAD modeling and optimization for slitting operation which shall enhance the operational parameters of the slitting machine.
