Improving Productivity in Apparel Industry: A Case Study

Abstract


Three basic necessities of mankind are food, shelter and apparel. With civilization apparel plays a key role in human life and with globalization Indian apparel industry has to face competition from manufacturers of the globe, i.e., countries like China, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Hong Kong. etc. In apparel manufacturing, more workforce needs to be deployed. With a greater number of players in market and with changing customer preferences on cost and fashion it is difficult for the manufacturers to earn profit. Hence it has become necessity for the Industry to improve productivity, quality to retain market position. The current paper explains the reasons for loss in productivity, methods to recover the loss and to improve productivity. A Case study also has been presented to validate the proposal.
