Comparative Study of Design Parameters of Flat Slab, Waffle Slab and Conventional Slab Using Etabs Software

Abstract


Different types of slab systems are conventional reinforced concrete slab which consist of beams and column for load transfer mechanism, Flat slab is that in which beams are not present and the slab is directly rested on the columns, and waffle slab is one in which the combination of deck and a system of equally spaced parallel ribs, having monolithic inter-section, that can be constructed in either orthogonal or skew configuration. Flat slab and Waffle slab has many advantages over the conventional RCC slab in structural, architectural and economical aspects. The performance of flat slab and waffle slab under dynamic loading is very better as compared to conventional type of slab. This paper deals with the comparative study of conventional, flat and waffle slabs under dynamic loadings. The comparison is done with structural parameters like story displacement, story drift, story shear, base shear and axial load and economy. And with the help of these comparisons it shows the advantages of waffle slab over conventional and flat slab.
