Abstract

Fe-based alloys suffer oxidation and hot corrosion when the surfaces were in contact with air (oxidation) as well as the salty atmosphere (Hot corrosion) at elevated temperatures. In these atmospheric conditions, non-protective oxide Fe2O3 was formed on the surface of alloys. Oxidation and hot corrosion have been recognized as a major problem in the applications of the diesel engine, boilers, gas turbines, and chemical power plant etc. Detonation-gun sprayed Cr3C2-25NiCr Coating has been found the best solution to the other methods, to reduce the formation of scales. The weight of the sample was measured whole the time with temperatures to establish oxidation & hot-corrosion kinetics and followed by Scanning Electron Microscopy /Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (SEM/EDS) techniques are using to analyze the corrosion products. Uncoated boiler steels suffered major weight loss in case of oxidation but high weight gain in case of hot corrosion due to the formation of unprotective Fe2O3 oxide scales.
