Metal Surface Coating Through Welding Processes
Abstract
The adversity of service conditions limits the service life of components. The replacement cost of the components is extremely high. Surfacing technique offers benefits in reducing materials costs and, in salvage applications, enables an expensive or difficult-to-replace part to be reclaimed and restored to operation with minimum of downtime. Industries involved in surfacing operations use various fusion welding especially arc welding processes. These operations demand high deposition rates but at low penetration values in the base metal. The success of any overlaying operation depends on proper established welding procedure. The most appropriate procedure should be related to the particular part being surfaced and the composition or analysis of the part. This paper reviews various surfacing operations and the selection of an appropriate welding process for the required application
