Abstract

In present scenario, trash management is fundamentally important in terms of both the health and hygiene to prevent many diseases which originate from the incompetent supervision of the garbage system. Sometimes the dustbins are over flown due to lack of maintenance leading to spread deadly diseases and illness. Internet of things (IoT) is a technology which connects the physical devices to the internet. In this work, the garbage level inside a trash bin is continuously monitored by connecting it to the internet. The bin uses two ultrasonic sensors. The first one is connected outside the bin for opening and closing of the bin lid automatically in the presence of garbage within a specified distance from the bin lid. The second one is connected inside the bin which actually determines the garbage level. Once the garbage level crosses the specified threshold value, the bin itself notifies the same to the concerned authority to take the necessary action by sending electronic mail and Facebook message with the help of Raspberry Pi-3 model B connected to it. In addition to this, the bin uses four robotic wheels so that it can reach to the user to collect the garbage. The movement of the bin is controlled through a web portal.
