Three-phase Squirrel Cage Induction Generators (SCIG) Connected to Grid: An Overview

S K Jain, Shallu pahwa

Abstract

The induction generators associated with non-conventional energy systems like wind, mini/micro hydro are gaining popularity day by day as they are generating clean energy. The induction generators may be operated in two modes: isolated and grid connected. Further the grid connection can be done by using squirrel cage induction generators or doubly fed induction generators. In this paper detailed study of grid connected Squirrel cage induction generator is done, discussing steady- state, transient analysis, reactive power control methods and its applications in mini/ micro hydro plants. Also to optimize the controller parameters implementation of Particle swarm optimization is discussed.
