Abstract

The aim of the present investigation is to carry out a study of mechanical properties of aluminium alloy (7075) reinforced with silicon carbide, aluminium oxide and graphite. This composite is produced by the vortex method. The constituents of the composite are mixed uniformly by stirring action. Due to rotation of a mechanical agitator, hence creating vertex by stirring of molten metal, then by adding ingredients, the product was produced. Then a series of test was conducted. This reveled that as the reinforcement % is increased, there is an appreciable improvement in mechanical properties; in metal matrix, composites vary the reinforcement material from 0 to 3% by weight, but decrease in tensile strength. An attempt is made in this study to provide explanation for these phenomena.
