Abstract

Objective of this work is to simulate the sulfur recovery process by using the latest version of Aspen HYSYS V10 simulation program.  Sulfur recovery model used in the simulation program is Claus three stage process.  A total recovery of 97.85% sufur was recovered from the rich acid gas feed.  The effects of H2S/SO2 ratio, outlet sulfur dew point margin, catalytic stage temperature, CS2 and COS concentrations, role of catalyst, acid gas feed composition on sulfur recovery percentage are explained. Simulation results are used to maintain the sulfur recovery process at optimum conditions. Optimization of catalytic stage temperature and use of titania catalyst in the first catalytic converter shown 4.3% improvement in sulfur recovery.
