Corrosion of steel in industrial weather is ever possible mechanism for failure by loss in weight. Of many materials steel forms most suitable property cluster for industrial infrastructure i.e. from ambient weather to acid plants. Therefore steel is to be protected from corrosion by industrial weather, which may be either by alloy formation or paints or coatings similar to paints. Alloy formation from steel with elements those produce surface adhered rust similar to coatings or paints have developed weathering steels or indigenously corrosion resistant steels.
Coatings form on steel by surface adsorption reaction either originated from liquid or vapor in mix of usual medium of exposure and inhibitor. These methods of surfacing are applied either on steel or corrosion resistant alloyed steels or stainless steels. These inhibitors include synthetic polymers or eco-friendly extracts of plants. Toxicity in synthetic compounds has developed restrictions to study plant originated products. Aim is to study improvements in surface engineering properties so as to prevent corrosion on steel.
