Abstract

Airbag is one of the most important and crucial safety feature for a passenger in a collision scenario travelling in a vehicle. This feature becomes more important when the vehicle is electricity driven. The airbag must be fully inflated in less than 100 milliseconds that requires a spontaneous reaction of Guanidine Nitrate. In this research experiments on a standard Airbag Deployment Apparatus were conducted, results on effect of different pressure on the deployment of airbags were analyzed.  Their effectiveness and the most appropriate pressure for airbags were calculated through a series of experiments. Experimental set up uses nitrogen gas which is the most widely used gas for airbag inflation in the automobile industry. A pump and lever opening mechanism that helped to build pressure and used for filling airbags were used in the system. The results of the experiment showed that the best pressure range for the deployment of airbag which will inflate the airbags is between 115 - 125 pascals. This study can be used in defining the right amount of Guanidine nitrate when used in Electric Vehicles.
