Green Concepts in Industrial Buildings - Its Economic Implications and Potential Applications

Abstract


A green building should create delight when entered, serenity and health when occupied and regret when departed. Green buildings are considered as superior building not just from the aspect of its unique design and construction but even after post occupancy. Green factory building can have tremendous benefits, both tangible and intangible. The most tangible benefits are the reduction in water and energy consumption right from day one of occupancy. The energy savings thereby help in the return on investment at early stages. Intangible benefits of green factory include enhanced indoor air quality, good day lighting, health, well-being and safety of the workmen. Many researchers have tried to substantiate that green building often increase the productivity of the employees working inside. This paper present the findings of a research study of the post occupancy survey conducted at a newly constructed green industrial building which is under operation from past six months. Parameters such as thermal comfort, lighting comfort, air quality are being considered in the questionnaire survey conducted among the employees.
