The Continuous Stirred Tank Reactors (CSTRs) are one of the most important parts of chemical process industries and sewage treatment plants. They also have various other miscellaneous applications. So, they are very important from industrial point of view, economic point of view and environmental point of view. The CSTRs have complex non-linear dynamic characteristics. In this paper, mathematical model is developed followed by SIMULINK model. The temperature control of the CSTR is achieved through two controllers, i.e., the conventional PID controller and Internal model controller (IMC) by using MATLAB SIMULATION and the results obtained from application of both the controllers are then analyzed and compared to find the controller which gives optimum performance.
