Abstract

The first order plus time delay (FOPTD) model was considered and the proposed improved relay tuning (PIRT) method was applied to calculate the corrected ultimate gain (Ku) and the optimum PID settings. The closed loop response was obtained using optimum values of PID parameters and compared with that of conventional relay method, Ziegler–Nichols (ZN) method and Cohen–Coon (CC) method. The integral square error as a performance index was used and it was found that the Integral Square Error (ISE) has been decreased by proposed method as compared to that of conventional relay method and other methods. Hence the proposed improved relay tuning method gives better performance.
