Abstract

Global energy demand growth is the major cause for increased greenhouse gas emission significantly. It is essential to meet increased demand with alternative renewable sources like solar PV systems and wind etc. towards sustainability. Other alternative is like reduction in consumption. By the integration of these two concepts with two-way communication between utility and consumer becomes one of the causes of successful, secured and reliable operation and the concept is termed as Smart Grid. Demand Side Management (DSM) or Demand Response (DR) is one of the promising solutions to manage peak demand in this new arena. Unlike load reduction or shift of usage, this paper is proposing the utilization of renewable energy as a virtual power source at customer side. By having Energy Storage System (ESS) like battery bank to harvest intermittent natured power from solar PV system, the load is dispatched during peak pricing slots and economic benefits are observed significantly. The results are validating the proposed approach for real-time application.
