Design and Analysis of an Upright

An upright also known as a knuckle but upright is an upgraded form of the knuckle. Upright of
formula student car is generally subjected to various mechanical loads. Upright isthe part that is
connected with suspension arms, and wheel hub, and is attached to the suspension components. The
hub brake caliper mounting and also the steering tie rod (for front upright) in the FSAE vehicle. All
the loads that are acting on the wheels are transmitted to the knuckle/ Upright and then they are
directly transmitted tothe chassis through A-arms. Our paper aims on analyzing the upright as well as
the design of theupright by reducing weight with maintaining therequired strength and stiffness. The
model is designed by using CREO software for suspensionmounting points and Meshing and Ansys
software is used for analysis. The methodology consists of generating good quality mesh and applying
forces and moments for different types of load occurring on the upright and analyzing their effect on
the upright.
