Abstract

Now a days Heat treatment is one of the most important operations which alters the properties of the material such as hardness, strength, toughness, ductility, corrosion resistance, etc., and these are used according to the required material properties. These treatments are involving heating and cooling a specimen normally to extreme temperatures. These major processes are annealing, normalizing, hardening, case hardening, etc. In every process, the properties vary accordingly. Turning is the conventional machining operation that is used by many production industries. It is an ancient and most important material removal process for the production of many components like shafts, gripping, making pulleys, etc. Due to their superior strength, toughness, weldability, and
corrosion resistance, low alloy steels are frequently utilized in the automotive, aerospace, bearing, and gear sectors. Low alloy steel’s use is gradually expanding because of its durability and resistance to corrosion. The usage of low alloy steels is increasing gradually due to their strength and corrosion resistance. To know the effects caused by the heat treatment followed by the machining
processes by altering the machining parameters to obtain the optimum surface roughness by using the Design of Experiments (DOE) approach.
