Most wildlife relies on natural lighting to control mating and feeding habits, sleep schedules, pollination, and travelling routes. Sources of artificial light interfere with these patterns and routines and are Greatly disorientating for many species of wildlife, often with fatal results. The effects of ecological light pollution are widespread. They comprise disorientation from and attraction to artificial light, structural-related mortality due to disorientation, and effects on the light-sensitive cycles of many species. Darkness at night is necessary for a lot of animals, although we don’t consider this when we accidentally leave a light on throughout the night. Artificial light exposure can create problems for species that are adapted to the use of light – or the absence of light – to aid in orientation.
