Improvement of Safety Culture in Warehouses for Mechanical Material Handling: Special Emphasis on Conveyor Safety

Abstract


Safety culture at warehouses are generally vulnerable because of the manual and mechanized safety related movement in warehouses, these vehicular movements or manual movements either to carry out the work from inbound to an outbound station or vice versa or to any other locations requires a high standard of safety culture in between the processes or in the organization. As far as safety in the warehouses are concerned manual handling plays an important role as varies ergonomic hazards has already taken place due to repetitive motions for transferring materials from one destination to another thus to inculcate this issue mechanized material handling has been done by forklifts, pallets, Hydraulic pallets, conveyors etc. Conveyors helps in easy transferring of large stocks and heavy materials without involving musculoskeletal disorders or other ergonomic effect and helps in processing work at minimum time interval with high productivity but conveyors at warehouses also deals with high amount of risk and hazards, for example, fire hazards, entanglement, struck by, pinch point etc. and to encounter such hazards proper safety culture must be implemented at warehouse following all respective procedures and standards.

 This work aims to catalog safety-related procedures related to conveyor safety at the warehouse and to develop safety culture-defining about all the methods and procedures for better supervision and control over conveyor safety in the warehouse to diminish all possibility of hazards associated with conveyor safety and implementing all the given recommendations over it.
