Abstract

Abstract

The blind people are at a significant drawback because they often lack the information for avoiding obstacles and threats in their path. They have very little information on self-velocity, objects, route, etc., which is essential for travel. Previously developed navigation systems use costly equipment which is often not affordable by the common blind peoples. Also, the navigation systems available are heavy weighted and very complex to use. Our research is based on design and development of a wearable and portable real-time device which helps in navigation for the visually impaired people. The device uses a Raspberry Pi camera to capture the image frames directly in front of the user, and the processor implements image processing to determine the obstacle. A system will provide an alert through Bluetooth device using audible messages if any object is detected within the set range.
