Analysis of a Dual Band Stacked Patch Antenna with Multiple Notches

Priyanka Soni, D. C. Dhubkarya

Abstract

This paper presents the design and analysis of compact dual band stacked microstrip patch antenna for various applications. The designed antenna structure represents the dual frequency band operation and it covers the S band, frequency applications such as Wi-Fi, surface ship radar, weather radar, broadcasting in the range from 2.31GHz to 3.77GHz frequency band, radar, satellite based digital audio radio service (DARS) communication and some communication satellites. The parameters of designed antenna like return loss, VSWR, bandwidth and radiation pattern (gain, directivity and efficiency) are simulated and investigated using latest computer simulation software IE3D (version 2015). By simulating the designed antenna, we get two frequency bands, which are, 2.317–2.367 GHz and 2.677–2.777 GHz with resonant frequencies 2.36and 2.777 GHz. The gain and directivity of the proposed antenna are quite efficient for the required applications. The antenna structure is very simple, compact and covers less space; thus, all these qualities make this type of antenna suitable for practical applications.
