Design of UWB Microwave Filter Using Quarter Wavelength Short-Circuited Stub

Chandni P. Pravasi, Dr. Rutvij C. Joshi

Abstract

UWB technology has progressed a lot in recent years for high speed wireless communications and other applications which need higher data rate and wider bandwidth. In this paper UWB bandpass filter is designed using quarter wavelength (λ0/4) short circuited stubs to improve the performance of UWB. Designed UWB filter gives higher performance and lower insertion loss in UWB spectrum. 5th order UWB bandpass filter is designed using CST MWS simulation software. The filter is designed on Rogers 4232 substrate with relative dielectric constant of 3.2 and substrate thickness of 0.508 mm. Designed UWB microstrip filter has insertion loss (S21) less than -0.2 dB and insertion loss (S11) less than -14.89 dB in passband. UWB filter covers wider bandwidth of 7.86 GHz and fractional bandwidth of 114%. Designed UWB filter has simple geometry, ease of integration, wider bandwidth and less insertion loss in passband. UWB filter can be used for multiple RF and microwave applications.
