CPW-fed Dual Sense Slot Antenna for Circular Polarization

Abstract


A novel compact dual-band and dual-sense circularly polarized coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed        rectangular slot antenna is proposed. Dual-band and dual-sense is realized by a proper choice of the L-shape feed line and two parasitic elements inside the slot. A prototype dual-sense antenna is fabricated. The antenna has a compact size of 63.5×55mm2. Measured 3dB axial ratio bandwidth of the lower band with right hand circular polarization (RHCP) is 26.32% (1.435GHz -1.87 GHz) and for the upper band with left hand circular polarization (LHCP) is 8.1% (2.83GHz-3.07GHz). The measured 10dB impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 76.4% (1.40GHz- 3.13GHz) which covers both the CP bands. Depending on the application requirements, the ratio of the lower to upper mid-band frequencies can be easily tuned as well as RHCP and LHCP bands can be interchanged.
