A Dipole Circular Patch Antenna for Operation in the X-Band

This microwave engineering research paper proposes, designs, calculates, and simulates a novel dipole circular patch antenna for theoretical wideband operations in the X-band (the 8 GHz to 12 GHz frequency range). This proposed microstrip patch antenna was realized using FR-4 as a dielectric (a thickness of 1.5 mm) with copper being used in both the ground plate and the two transmitting circular elements (the so-called patches with a thickness of 0.3 mm for both patches). The input for this microwave antenna was through a microstrip input feed line (also constructed using copper). It should be noted that a centre frequency of 10 GHz was considered for all the necessary design calculations. Realization and simulated tests were conducted with CST Microwave Studio (an electromagnetic simulation software maintained by Simulia, a software-producing subsidiary of French technology company Dassault Systèmes). This proposed dipole antenna has shown relatively above average performance values when simulated for the required wide operational microwave bandwidth, namely the 8 GHz to the 12 GHz frequency range (the X-band of the operational microwave frequency ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum).
