Abstract
Polymer production processes are facing the problems of optimization of production rate, increasing yield, waste minimization and environmental issues and product quality problems. These issues can be solved by designing efficient polymer manufacturing processes. Accurate properties of polymers are very important in designing efficient processes. Hundreds of property estimation methods are available for property estimation of polymers but the selection of the suitable property model is a challenging task. One more challenge in polymer manufacturing is characterizing polymer molecular structure, calculating rheological and mechanical properties and tracking these properties throughout the process is a critical task. All these criteria can be meeting by estimating the accurate thermos-physical properties, thermodynamic properties, and transport properties of the components of the polymer systems. By considering these issues, this work concentrates on the importance and selection of various models available to calculate accurately the thermodynamic properties, physical properties and transport properties of polymers. A detailed methodological approach is followed to explain the importance of polymer property estimation using the various thermos-physical models, transport property models, activity coefficient models and equations of state models.
