New Method for the Transient Analysis of Lines with Corona

Abstract--
A new direct procedure for the transient analysis of overhead lines under corona is suggested.
The governing partial differential equations are derived taking into consideration the possible
variations in the line’s equivalent conductance and capacitance. A noniterative solution of
these equations can be found in terms of interpolating functions resulting from a Mathematica
computer code. The developed program can handle any time waveform of the sources
initiating the transients, any line length, design and termination. The transient voltage and
current distributions as well as the voltage-charge plots for several case studies are presented
and discussed.
