Study of Physical and Chemical Properties of Heavy Waxy Crude Oil from Cambay Basin Using Rheometer and Cross-Polar Microscope

Ankur Singh, Uttam K. Bhui

Abstract

Production of heavy crude is quite difficult as the pressure drops from reservoir to production facility are quite large. This often leads to the precipitation and deposition of common organic solids (paraffin). These solids may deposit on surfaces, collect in low-energy regions or increase the effective viscosity of the flowing fluid. The net effect is an increase in pressure drop for a given rate through reduction in flowing area or viscosity change. In some cases, the system may be completely blocked. Therefore it is necessary to study and analyze the behavior and properties of heavy paraffinic crude. In this study we are using four samples of crude having different physical and chemical properties. The behavior of these crudes is studied in static and dynamic conditions at different temperatures, and correlated the results to form ageneralized relation.
