Abstract

Present research work was conducted to demonstrate in detail the acid-clay recycling processes of used lube oil techniques and treatment. Adequate attention is given to these techniques employed in the recycling of used lube oil. A major menace today is the uncontrolled dumping and improper disposal of used lube oils, the magnitude which is conservatively estimated to be very high and therefore threatens our environmental existence. A comparative study was carried out experimentally on physicochemical properties of fresh and used lube oil. The investigation offers suitable end product on the application of acid-clay treatment for used lube oil (ULO). The various used lube oil samples collected were examined in this research work. The research work demonstrates that the used lube oil (ULO) can be used for other industrial purposes. The significance of the recycling is to reduce the problems associated with disposal of used lube oil into the environment. The application of the clay obtained from Oboburu community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria for the treatment of used lube oil reveals that the recovered lube oil can either be used as high energy content, clean burning fuel or a lube base stock comparable to a highly refined fresh oil, hence useful conclusion and requisite recommendations are made on the handling techniques of lubricating oils.
