Potential of the Biokinetic Integrity of Chromolaena Odorata leaf as Bio-stimulant for Petroleum Hydrocarbon Remediation in Soil
Abstract
The biokenitic parameters of each TPH degradation in the various reactors set-up was determined in terms specific rate of TPH degradation, maximum specific rate of TPH degradation and the equilibrium or dissociation constants as well as the rate of TPH degradation (-kd) or the decay rate of TPH. The value of -kd is within the range of -0.0551 to -0.0151 for room dried and -0.0447 to 0.0118 for sundried whereas for control the value is -0.0024. The -Kd value increases with increase on the effectiveness of the biostimulant performance. This research has positively proved that Chromolaena odorata (Awolowo leaf) contain sufficient nutrients that catalyzed bioremediation and enhance TPH mitigation on the progressive phase of the transient growth rate of the microorganisms inoculated in the programme. This research has revealed the potential nutrient posses by the bio-stimulant in ensuring the remediation of TPH without any possible inhibition occurring throughout the experiment period. This research shows the possibility of Chromolaena Odorata leaf biokinetic integrity as a biostimulant for soil remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons. The results of this study have conclusively demonstrated that Chromolaena odorata, has enough nutrients to support bioremediation and improve TPH mitigation during the progressive phase of the microorganisms' transient growth rate.
