Improving Cycle Time Using Value Stream Mapping in Foundry

Atul Sharma

Abstract

As competition between manufacturing industries tightens every day, there is need for continual improvement of process to increase productivity. Thus, there is urgency to improve the productivity of firms to sustain in global competitive market. There are wide ranges of opportunities in which one can enhance satisfaction growth of the firm. Reducing lead time by eliminating waste and thereby improving cycle time of a process is one of the areas of improvement that was identified. Present work is an effort to improve the Cycle Time by banishing waste, bottlenecks and redundancies using value stream mapping. The value stream mapping consists of defining the current state of the system and then using the principles of lean manufacturing and mapping an improved future system state.
