USB Charger Using Pedal Power

R Shanmukha Sandeep, PV Anusha Unni

Abstract

Profound cyclists will no doubt have every now and then thought that is would be agreeable to have some special type of on-board power supply to charge a mobile device such as a phone or a satnav even though on the road. The project describes how this can be achieved quite simply using power from the bicycle’s dynamo and a switching regulator. The alternating voltage delivered by the bicycle’s dynamo is converted to DC by full wave rectifier and a smoothing capacitor. It is followed by a switching regulator which will be used to provide regulated voltage of 5 V. This will be used for charging of any mobile device such as phone or satnav. Thus this technique is the best way of charging of mobile devices by utilizing maximum energy from the bicycle.
