PI Control Based switching Fault control in Four Switch Voltage Source Inverter

M. Ayyakrishnan

Abstract

This paper presents a fault tolerant control in four switch voltage source inverter by using PI controller. Four switch voltage source inverter has four switches with two legs and DC input link.  Four switch voltage source inverter (FSVSI)  can  produce a three phase ac voltage as in six switch three phase voltage source inverter with only a four power semiconductor switches in a short of two switches. The two switch fault circuit topology of a four switch voltage source inverter with three phase load is demonstrated with various switching mode conditions. In the event of either a single switching fault in any one of the legs or two switching faults in two legs simultaneously,  the proposed PI controller detects and minimizes the time between the fault occurrence and its isolation so as to the system remains in a healthy operation. To analyze the steady state and transient operating conditions of drives, space vector pulse width modulation technique is preferred to produce the necessary signals for each and every power switches under fault conditions. This paper presents two switching fault tolerant control scheme to control the system variables to drive the process and maintain the desired response by using proportional – integral (PI) algorithm. It establishes a PI based fault detection and isolation of two switching faults for four switch voltage source inverter with help of software MATLAB-SIMULINK. The simulation results of output voltage and dynamic characteristics of three phase induction motor under the faulty conditions are verified with fault recovery time.
