Abstract

Electricity meter bypass is becoming more frequent and pervasive leading to Loss of Revenue (LOR) in electricity sector. Technology has advanced to the point where a gadget that calculates and measures changes in the environment can now detect motion. A network SIM card connected to a GSM module controlled by an ATmega8 microprocessor, is used in the design and construction of this project. In this framework, an LDR sensor is linked to a microcontroller, a GSM module, and other components; when any intruder is detected attempting to bypass the meter, the alarm system is activated, and text message notifications are sent to the home owner as well as the power distribution company; specifying the location, type of bypass and seamlessly switches to bypass mode by switching on the relay. In order for the system to revert back to its operating mode, the power distribution company have to audit the incident and enforce penalty where necessary before sending a text message to the system to revert back to its normal operating mode. Furthermore, there is a functionality for the home user to set the maximum load allowed on the system in order to manage electricity consumption; in the case whereby above the maximum load is intruded into the system, A text will be sent out from the system. to the house owner and enter into suspension mode for a time-frame and immediately revert back when the foreign load is removed. This is a platform for the user to manage electricity consumption; therefore, there exist no valid reasons to bypass the meter and there will be strict penalty by the power distribution company when found guilty.
