Abstract
In this paper, the accidental eccentricity demand of an educational building due to live load uncertainty is worked out. The various occupancies of an educational building are imposed with suitable intensity of imposed load as per IS 875 provision and for different situations of these loads the maximum shift of centre of mass is evaluated. To define imposed load intensity, gamma probability distribution is used. The values of accidental eccentricity are obtained for different loading cases in educational building. It was concluded from obtained results that the accidental eccentricity demand of structure due to imposed load uncertainty is much less than code provision. And 5% value of building dimension is sufficient for consideration of accidental torsion.
