Response Spectrum Analysis and Comparison of Seismic Parameters ofLow Rise, High Rise and Asymmetrical RC Structure with and Without Infill for Different Bay Dimensions

V D Pawar, R.S. Patil

Abstract

The concrete block walls or brick masonry are widely used as partitions in world wide. Generally the effect of infill walls is not considered in the design process and istreated as non-structural components. The presence of infill walls has vital role in performance of building during earthquakes. Infill panels significantly increase stiffness and strength of the frames. This study provides the comparative study on summary of performance of low rise and high rise RC symmetrical and asymmetrical frame buildings with and withoutinfill walls. The masonry infill walls are entirely replaced by equivalent diagonal strut in-order to assess their contribution in seismic resistance of normal Reinforced concrete buildings. The objective of this paper is to review various documents on behavior of structures and contribution of various structural parts during an earthquake. The past and present study shows that there is a vast contribution made by brick infill walls during an earthquake. This assessment helps to prove the phenomenon of strength and stability given by masonry infill walls to structure.
