Abstract

In the present work, an attempt is made to enhance the productivity of the conventional basin type single slope solar still using a vertical rotating wick. A rotating wick (Jute cloth) belt is integrated against the still back wall to act as an additional evaporation area. A set of experimental tests are carried out by applying constant heat flux using halogen bulbs and by varying the brackish water height in the basin, cooling top glass surface, by using charcoal in the basin to improve the productivity of still. The still productivity improvement is demonstrated by comparative study of the results obtained by making various modifications in the still.
